Mattress Size Guide: Twin to California King Dimensions
Choosing a mattress starts with choosing the right size. Pick one that fits both your sleepers and your room. Here's a clear breakdown of standard U.S. mattress dimensions from Roberts Furniture & Mattress.
Mattress size chart
| Size | Dimensions (W x L) | Best for |
|---|---|---|
| Twin | 38" x 75" | Kids, bunk beds, small rooms |
| Twin XL | 38" x 80" | Taller teens, dorms |
| Full (Double) | 54" x 75" | Solo adults, guest rooms |
| Queen | 60" x 80" | Couples, most popular size |
| King | 76" x 80" | Couples who want maximum space |
| California King | 72" x 84" | Tall sleepers, longer rooms |
How to choose the right size
- Who sleeps in it? Couples are most comfortable in a Queen or larger. A King gives each person roughly the width of a Twin.
- How tall are you? If you're over 6 feet, choose Twin XL, Queen, King or California King for the extra length.
- How big is the room? Leave about 2 feet of walking space around the bed. A Queen suits most bedrooms; reserve King and Cal King for larger master suites.
King vs California King
A standard King is wider (76") but a California King is longer (84"). Choose a King if you want more shoulder room, or a California King if you're tall or your bedroom is long and narrow.
